Film-coated tablets tolerate Indian conditions well if they are kept dry, cool and in their original strip. Here is how to store Rosomni-20 at home, on the road and through the monsoon.
How should Rosomni-20 be stored at home?
The pack instruction for Rosomni-20 is simple: store protected from light and moisture. In practice that means keeping the strips in the original carton, inside a closed cupboard or drawer, in the coolest and driest room of the house. Follow the temperature printed on the pack; most film-coated tablets sold in India are labelled for storage below 30 degrees Celsius.
Rosuvastatin is a stable molecule and the film coating adds protection, but heat and damp can still soften the coating, discolour the tablet and slowly reduce potency. A tablet that has changed colour, developed spots or crumbles when pressed out of the foil should not be taken.
Protecting tablets from Indian heat and monsoon humidity
Two Indian conditions cause most storage problems. The first is heat: a carton left on a sunlit window sill, in a two-wheeler storage box or on the dashboard of a parked car can go far above the label limit within an hour. The second is monsoon humidity, when moisture creeps into anything not sealed.
- Keep strips inside the carton until needed; the carton blocks light.
- Store away from the kitchen stove, geyser, bathroom and washing area.
- During the monsoon, place the carton in an airtight box with a silica gel sachet of the kind found in shoe boxes.
- Do not refrigerate unless the label says so; condensation on a cold strip is worse than room temperature.
- Press out each tablet only when you are about to take it.
Blister strip care: why the foil matters
The pack contains ten strips of ten tablets. Each pocket of a strip is a sealed unit that keeps light and moisture away from one tablet. Once a pocket is opened that protection is gone, so never push out several tablets at once for later use.
If you need to carry a few days' supply, cut the strip carefully and keep a portion that still shows the batch number and expiry date. If a pocket is accidentally torn, use that tablet next rather than storing it.
Travelling with Rosomni-20
Rosuvastatin does not need a cold chain, which makes travel easy. A few habits keep the tablets safe:
- Carry the strips in hand luggage rather than checked baggage, where heat and loss are more likely.
- Take a copy of your prescription, especially for air travel or if you may need to buy more while away.
- Keep the strips out of direct sun on trains and buses and never leave them in a parked vehicle.
- Pack a couple of extra days' supply in case of delays.
Time zones matter little for a once-daily statin; simply keep to roughly the same local time each day.
Expiry dates and safe disposal of unused tablets
Every strip shows a manufacturing date and an expiry date. The expiry date is the last month in which full potency is assured when the tablets are stored correctly. Do not take tablets after that month, and do not stockpile more than a few months' supply.
Do not flush tablets down the toilet or throw loose tablets in the dustbin where children or animals can find them. Where a chemist accepts returns of expired medicines, use that route. Otherwise, remove the tablets from the strip, mix them with used tea leaves or coffee grounds, seal them in a bag and put it in household waste.
Keeping the medicine away from children
Small coated tablets can look like sweets. Store the carton high up and out of sight, never on a bedside table or dining table, and explain to older children that these are medicines only for the adult who has been prescribed them.

- Is it safe to use a weekly pill organiser?
- For a few days at a time in a dry room it is generally acceptable, but the tablet loses the protection of the foil. During the monsoon it is better to press tablets out only when taking them.
- How long can I keep an opened strip?
- An opened strip is fine until its expiry date as long as the remaining pockets are intact and the strip is stored dry and away from light.
- Can I carry Rosomni-20 on a flight?
- Yes. Keep it in hand luggage in the original strip with a copy of the prescription, which also helps if you need a refill at your destination.
