How to Store Empomni-25 Tablets in Indian Homes

The carton says it plainly: store below 30 degrees Celsius, protect from light and moisture, keep out of reach of children. Those three lines cover almost everything that can go wrong.

Below 30 degrees rules out several places most Indian households actually use. A cupboard on an outer wall that catches afternoon sun, a shelf above the stove, a windowsill, or the glove box of a car parked outside can all cross that limit easily in summer.

Choose an interior cupboard or a drawer in a room that stays reasonably cool, away from direct sunlight. There is no need to refrigerate Empomni-25, and putting tablets in the fridge can actually expose them to condensation each time the door opens.

Moisture is the quiet problem. During the monsoon, indoor humidity stays high for weeks, and tablets left outside their blister absorb moisture, which can change how they look and how they behave.

Keep each tablet sealed in its blister until you are ready to take it. Do not pop a week's supply into a loose plastic box, and do not decant tablets into an old bottle. If you use a pill organiser for convenience, fill it for a short period only and keep it in a dry place.

Bathroom cabinets are a poor choice in every season because of steam. A dry bedroom cupboard is far better. If a strip has been left in a damp place, show it to your pharmacist rather than assuming it is fine.

Empomni-25 comes as a 10 x 10 pack, that is ten strips of ten tablets. Keep unopened strips inside the printed carton, because the carton protects against light and carries the batch number, manufacturing date, expiry and MRP.

Push the tablet out through the foil rather than peeling the backing off a whole row. Handle tablets with dry hands. If a pocket of the blister is already open, the foil is torn, or a tablet is chipped, cracked or discoloured, do not take it.

When you buy a refill, check that the outer carton seal is intact, that the printing is clear and that the batch number on the strip matches the carton. Raise any mismatch with the chemist at the counter.

Diabetes treatment should not pause for a trip. Carry Empomni-25 in your hand baggage rather than checked luggage, keep it in the original carton, and carry a copy of your prescription. That copy also helps at hotels, at security and if you need a refill away from home.

Do not leave the strip on a car dashboard, on a two wheeler under the seat in the sun, or in a bag that sits in direct sunlight on a train window seat. Heat builds fast in all three.

Carry a little more than the exact number of tablets you need, because journeys extend and pharmacies may not stock the same brand. Since this medicine increases urine output, plan water and rest stops sensibly, especially on long summer road journeys.

Check the expiry printed on the carton and on each strip before every refill and again before starting a new strip. An expired tablet may not act as expected, and there is no reliable way to judge that by looking at it.

Do not flush leftover or expired tablets down the toilet and do not throw loose tablets into an open dustbin where children, pets or waste handlers could reach them. The better approach is to remove them from the blister, mix them with something unappealing such as used tea leaves, seal the mixture in a bag and put it in household waste. Many hospitals and larger pharmacies also accept unused medicines for disposal, so ask your chemist first.

Keep the medicine well out of reach of children. Tablets in a coloured blister are easily mistaken for sweets.
