Sitomni-M-OD 100/500: Complete Guide to the OD Tablet

Sitomni-M-OD 100/500 is a prescription film-coated tablet marketed in India by EMK Omni Pharma, Mysuru. Each tablet brings together two established anti-diabetic molecules: Sitagliptin 100 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg. The letters OD point to its once-daily design, which is meant to keep a two-drug regimen simple for people who are already taking several medicines every day.

EMK Omni Pharma markets the brand. The tablets themselves are produced for the company at GMP-certified contract manufacturing units, and the finished pack is supplied to the trade as 10 x 10 tablets in blister strips.

The pack carries a Schedule G and Schedule H warning. In practice that means a chemist may dispense it only against the prescription of a registered medical practitioner, and it is not a medicine anyone should start, change or stop on their own.

Type 2 diabetes usually involves more than one problem at the same time. The body responds poorly to its own insulin, and the liver keeps releasing glucose even when it is not needed. Metformin, a biguanide, works mainly on that second problem. Doctors generally consider a sitagliptin and metformin combination for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled by diet, physical activity and a single anti-diabetic medicine. It may also suit someone already taking both molecules separately, where one tablet a day is easier to follow than two prescriptions.

It is not used for type 1 diabetes and it is not a treatment for diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also not a replacement for the eating and activity plan that sits underneath every diabetes prescription.
