Nicomni-5 is a prescription cardiac medicine marketed in India by EMK Omni Pharma, Mysuru. Each uncoated tablet contains Nicorandil IP 5 mg along with approved excipients, and the product is supplied as a bottle of 20 tablets.

Doctors prescribe it for adults living with chronic stable angina. That is the repeated chest tightness, heaviness or squeezing that appears when the heart muscle is not receiving enough blood during physical effort, cold weather, heavy meals or emotional stress, and which settles with rest.

Nicorandil is unusual because it acts in two different ways at the same time. One half of the molecule behaves like a nitrate. It releases nitric oxide inside blood vessel walls, which relaxes the veins and reduces the amount of blood returning to the heart. With a smaller load to push out, the heart works less hard and needs less oxygen.

The other action opens ATP sensitive potassium channels in the smooth muscle of arteries. This relaxes the small resistance arteries and the coronary arteries themselves, so the pressure the heart pumps against falls and blood flow through the coronary circulation improves.
